What happened
A panel commissioned by WWF and chaired by former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay found no evidence that WWF directed ranger abuses, but reported that WWF staff had received reliable reports since 2008 (Mongabay, 8 December 2020).
The panel said serious allegations reached senior management in 2014–2018, and that consultants' reports were softened before reaching the board (Mongabay, 2020).
A BuzzFeed News investigation published on 4 March 2019 reported that WWF-funded or equipped rangers in six countries beat villagers, sexually assaulted and killed people (BuzzFeed News, 2019).
