- The record does not name which of my species, waters, soils or forests were harmed.
A WTO panel ruled in November 2022 that Indonesia's ban on raw nickel ore exports breached WTO rules, in a case brought by the European Union. Indonesia appealed to a body that is not functioning, so the ruling is not final.
- Indonesian government — Aim to build a domestic battery chain by processing nickel at home
What happened
Indonesia banned raw nickel ore exports in 2020, and the government said processing the metal at home would make the country a centre of the electric vehicle battery chain.
The Jakarta Post said in an opinion piece in December 2022 that a WTO panel had found the ban inconsistent with WTO rules, in a case brought by the European Union.
Indonesia appealed into a gap, because the WTO appeal body is not working, so the ruling is not final.
