US Supreme Court blocks state cancer-warning suits against pesticide makers
Short record: the main facts, with sources. A full case file has not been prepared.
- The record does not name which of my species, waters, soils or forests were harmed.
The 7–2 ruling of 25 June 2026 held that federal pesticide law stops states from requiring cancer warnings the EPA has not approved. The court did not decide whether glyphosate causes cancer.

What happened
On 25 June 2026 the US Supreme Court ruled 7–2 that the federal pesticide law (FIFRA) bars state suits demanding a cancer warning that is not on the EPA-approved label (Faegre Drinker, June 2026).
The court did not decide whether glyphosate causes cancer, and the US Justice Department supported Monsanto (Wikipedia, Roundup article).
EPA said on 17 January 2025 that it wanted to withdraw its 2021 paraquat decision and asked for more data; plaintiffs said they could not wait four more years.
Syngenta said on 3 March 2026 that it would stop producing Gramoxone, its paraquat herbicide, by 30 June and end sales by 31 December 2026.
