Short record: the main facts, with sources. A full case file has not been prepared.
- The record does not name which of my species, waters, soils or forests were harmed.
A Paris court ruled in October 2025 that TotalEnergies' claim to be carbon neutral by 2050 misled consumers, while its production was rising. Nature's stake: whether carbon-neutral claims rest on emissions that continue.

What happened
The Paris Judicial Court found on 23 October 2025 that TotalEnergies' claim of carbon neutrality by 2050 was misleading to consumers (ESG Today).
The court fined each sanctioned entity 8,000 euros and awarded 15,000 euros in costs. Le Club des Juristes described the sanction as partial (ESG Today; Le Club des Juristes).
Columbia's Sabin Center wrote that the court found the claim misleading while the company's production was rising (Columbia Sabin Center).
The court treated the company's gas and farm-fuel messages as corporate communication rather than advertising.
