Spain's flood insurance pool paid over 4 billion euros for DANA
Short record: the main facts, with sources. A full case file has not been prepared.
Spain's state-backed insurance pool had paid more than 4 billion euros for claims from the 2024 DANA floods in Valencia, according to the government. A claim that dam demolitions or cloud seeding caused the floods was found unsupported by the fact-checker Maldita.

What happened
The Spanish government said on 26 November 2025 that the Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros had paid more than 4 billion euros in DANA compensation; it had processed 98.3% of 250,946 applications, and 210,106 were paid.
Ivie, the Valencian Institute of Economic Studies, estimated that the DANA destroyed at least 20% of 85.9 billion euros of assets in 89 municipalities, a loss above 17 billion euros, as eldiario.es reported in January 2025.
Maldita found that the dams the claim cited were small, non-working weirs removed between 2006 and 2021 under different governments, and that cloud seeding cannot produce a DANA.
