What happened

The record, in order.

On 26 June 2019 Kenya's National Environment Tribunal cancelled the environmental licence that the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) had granted to Amu Power for a 1,050 MW coal plant at Lamu.

The tribunal found that meaningful public participation had not taken place and that the environmental impact assessment was incomplete, and it ordered a new assessment.

The tribunal's chair, Mohamed Balala, described public participation as the oxygen that gives life to the assessment report.
